Vanity was born Denise Katherine Matthews in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Helga Senyk and James Levia Matthews. Her mother was Polish and German descent and born in Germany, while her father was Blacks -American and born in Wilmington, North Carolina.
